At the time of writing this, I’ve just gotten home from volunteering at my kids’ school.
It was their annual field day, and I spent most of it in what I jokingly call “mum-on-duty” mode—organizing snacks, herding volunteers, and snapping photos for parents who couldn’t be there.
Earlier this week, I chaperoned a school trip. Next week, there’s another. Then graduation, stepping-up ceremonies, and the end-of-year flurry that only parents really understand.
This morning, while walking to school, my son said something offhand that landed with me.
He said, “I wish Daddy could come too. You’re always there.” Not in a wistful way—just matter-of-fact.
And I smiled, because what a gift it is for my children to be bored of me being there.
It’s not lost on me that this is the life I worked so hard to build—not just the flexibility to say yes to field trips and ceremonies, but the peace of not paying for that yes with overwork, stress, financial instability or scattered energy afterward.
It’s such a simple thing, but I’ve been reflecting on how much growth it’s taken to arrive here.
There were years when I clung to money—when every decision was fueled by this low-grade panic: Am I doing enough? Should I launch again? What more could I be doing?
I used to be endlessly available. To clients. To peers. To urgency.
I was making a lot of money, sure. But my time and my energy weren’t mine.
Now? I’m still available—but it’s to my children.
To myself.
To quiet mornings and slow decisions.
And the peace that comes with that is a kind of richness that doesn’t show up on a Stripe dashboard.
And the reward I feel now is different; deeper.
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on what makes this season of work feel so meaningful, even more than it did three, four, or five years ago. And I think it boils down to that adage that what you receive is a reflection of your internal world.
Back when I was so focused on making more, I attracted clients who came to me because they knew I could help them make more of it.
And while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, what I can see now—looking back—is that because I was so focused on it, it showed up everywhere. In my messaging, the stories I told and the way I unknowingly framed success in my marketing.
On one hand I wanted to be someone who spoke freely and often about money, modelling that financial overflow is available for all of us, but in doing so, money became the focus and the reason people signed up to learn from me.
Now, after years of loosening those internal ties in my own life, I’m attracting people who still care about making more, but money is now just one part of the equation. Our conversations go so much deeper.
We talk about nervous system regulation. About self-intimacy and fulfillment; and richness beyond money and the ways in which our businesses can facilitate that.
More than anything, we talk about crafting businesses that match who we are becoming—not just what we can achieve.
And it’s so rewarding because I don’t just feel at peace around my work—I feel deeply connected to the people inside it.
In a recent conversation inside Life-First Business, a student shared that they had some fun things they wanted to do this summer—and wanted to explore ways to create fun and easy cash injections to fund those experiences.
I loved it because it encapsulates the shift I’m intentional about cultivating in all our spaces: that instead of thinking about making money as something that’s hard or all-consuming, we get to see it as a tool with levers we can pull at any point to create more cash flow whenever we want to.
Because that’s the gift of entrepreneurship—we’re not just reacting to income, we’re orchestrating it.
But it also opened a bigger conversation about the difference between making money in ‘novel’ ways—those fast, energetic bursts that often pull us from the steady rhythms of our business—versus making money in sustainable ways, the kind where we chip away at long-term systems that hold us no matter what season we’re in.
Neither is better. But they come with different trade-offs. And when we understand them clearly, we get to choose consciously.
And that, to me, is the work.
Still feeling that tension between what you want and what your business feels like?
Take the Business Archetypes Quiz — it takes just 2 minutes and reveals the hidden patterns shaping your decisions (and how to shift them).
Because here’s the truth that not enough people say out loud: when you deeply desire a Life-First Business but still find yourself in hustle cycles, it’s often rooted in more than just a lack of strategy. It’s about the absence of embodiment.
People will often ask me, “What else do you do?,” or “what other strategies are you using?”. Like surely there’s more to the story about what I’m doing than I’m letting on.
But no.
What I do, I teach and share freely.

The real work that you don’t see is the internal work that now manifests in what you can see.
Because embodiment is when you live what you say, and have it reflected back to you.
It’s not as simple as saying that you want a business that’s sustainable and has your life at the center of it. It’s about doing the messy, and often, difficult work of confronting your relationship with work, productivity, safety and enoughness; and reshaping your beliefs in a way that makes it easy to make sustainable choices.
You don’t need to convince yourself to uphold your non-negotiables; it comes naturally and is simply an extension of the self-trust and shifts you’ve made internally.
Because I’ve done the hustle.
I’ve done the dopamine-induced sprints and I’ve spent a chunk of my adult life in over-functioning mode. But now I’m in a season where I will happily turn down money or opportunities that demand more of me than I’m willing to give.
And I know that’s a privilege. But it’s also a choice I’ve fought hard to make.
I would rather it take me double the amount of time to hit some of the big goals that I have for myself, or make incremental progress – working the same 3-day work week and feeling the way I do – than chase massive spikes and lose my peace in the process.
The boundaries I have now aren’t designed to protect myself from making decisions at odds with what I want. They’re an act of self-honouring.
I know myself.
I trust myself.
And my business reflects that.
